*If you decide that you would like to have me photograph your sweet new baby, please contact me with your due date. I will put your date in and keep enough time a few weeks before and after. Once you are home and settled, contact me and I can give you a few dates for you to choose from.
I realize that this will be such a joyous time and you will be busy getting into a new routine but I prefer my newborns to be under 14 days whenever possible. Obviously things happen and everything is unpredictable so this may not be possible. Either way, I am sure that I will capture your new bundle of joy perfectly. When they are under 14 days, they are still in that squishy, sleep stage where I can pose them.
Here are a few things that you can do to best prepare for your session!
Be prepared to feed baby while I am setting up. Have a diaper on but not tight to avoid any marks on the skin. Also, have baby naked but wrapped in a warm blanket.
If I am coming to you please have the temperature of the room hot. 80 degrees and high is ideal. I am aware that the baby will not enjoy being naked but a warm room will keep them comfortable. They baby will be naked most of the time. If you are not comfortable with with, please let me know before the session so that I can plan accordingly.
You may have an outfit or two ready for the baby to be photographed in but please know that clothing does not photograph well at such a young age. Most of the time, it is droopy and unflattering.
I will bring props and things along with me. I have a ton of headbands, hats, rompers and tutus that you may use. I enjoy personalizing the sessions for each family so if there is anything special about your family that you would like to incorporate, let me know ahead of time and have whatever props needed. (Firefighter, horse rider, etc)
I shoot natural light. Please have a room ready that has as much natural light as possible.
If you are planning to have any pictures done with the baby, I recommend wearing as little as possible. Jeans and a white or black tank top usually photograph the best. Be sure to let me know ahead of time so that I am sure to bring the right backdrops for those pictures. Siblings will also be included in the session.
I also enjoy ‘lifestyle’ photography. Photographing you and your family around the house, in the nursery, cuddling with the baby, etc.
Lastly and most importantly, please please please allow plenty of time for your session. A session can take up to 4 hours to complete. Don’t plan anything within 4 hours of your sessions!
